Hotels in Montego Bay are plentiful, which makes sense as this is one of the hottest beach areas in Jamaica, home to a beautiful swath of white-sand beach backed by a sparkling turquoise sea. But with so much variety, it can be hard to know where to stay.

First, you'll want to decide on the style of resort you are looking for: Do you want an adult-only luxury hotel for a romantic vacation, or a family friendly resort for a holiday with the kids? Do you want an all-inclusive property, so you don't have to worry about paying for meals each day? Montego Bay has all these kinds of hotels.

There are also options to rent entire swanky private homes or smaller but still luxe villas. You can even stay in an over-the-water bungalow at one luxury resort. And for those on a budget, don't fear. There are cheaper hotel choices that allow you to enjoy this stretch of Caribbean paradise without maxing out your credit card. Here are our favorite hotels in Montego Bay:

Wink First Look: Bentley’s New Flagship Bentayga Is an Even Longer and More Lavish SUV

First Look: Bentley’s New Flagship Bentayga Is an Even Longer and More Lavish SUV

Want to stretch your legs? Bentley’s Bentayga Extended Wheelbase has you covered. Billed as the British marque’s “new luxury flagship,” this lengthened and more lavish SUV effectively replaces the Bentley Mulsanne four-door sedan. Robb Report was recently treated to a secret preview of the EWB ahead of it reaching US showrooms this fall.

Our rendezvous with the new Bentayga variant took place in a closely guarded studio at Brooklands, near London. Built in 1907, Brooklands was the world’s first purpose-built racetrack and became synonymous with Bentley. In 1935, the 8.0-liter BH1, owned by famous ‘”Bentley Boy” Woolf Barnato, lapped the steep banking at an average of 142.6 mph. Decades later, two of Bentley’s road cars were named after the circuit.

Bentley Motors Limited

Bentley had two examples of the new Bentayga for us to see and sit inside. The EWB part of its name refers to a wheelbase stretched by 7.1 inches, creating a longer cabin than a Rolls-Royce Cullinan, or a Mulsanne for that matter. According to Chris Cole, product line director for the Bentayga, it offers “a true chauffeur-driven experience.”
The Bentayga’s styling has always split opinion, but the Extended Wheelbase wears its extra inches well. Indeed, you’ll struggle to tell stock and EWB versions apart at first glance. All the extra length is incorporated into the rear door, which emphasizes the kicked-up muscular haunches. And an exclusive 22-inch wheel is standard, with 21s available if you plan any off-road excursions.

Bentley Motors Limited

The two Bentaygas at Brooklands had very different specifications: one in Rose Gold with glinting chrome trim, the other in stealthy Grey Violet with the Blackline package. Either way, the key EWB styling differences are a vertical-vane front grille and repositioned panoramic sunroof—moved 4.9 inches rearwards to benefit those luxuriating in the back.

Beneath the hood, the EWB packs in Bentley’s 550 hp 4.0-liter V-8 that’s mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission. With a curb weight of 5,542 pounds (around 220 pounds more than the regular V-8-powered version of the model), it bludgeons zero to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and has a top speed of 180 mph. Cole told us there won’t be a 635 hp W-12 alternative, stating, “that engine is reserved for the Bentayga Speed; this car is more focused on luxury.” Yet the 449 hp, V-6 plug-in hybrid drivetrain is “currently being considered,” according to Cole.

To help manage its extra length, the EWB is the first Bentayga to be given electronic all-wheel steering. Along with improving high-speed stability, the system shrinks the car’s turning circle to a nimble 38.7 feet, which represents a seven percent decrease from that of the standard model. Bentley Dynamic Ride is also fitted to every EWB, with 48 v active anti-roll bars to maintain ride comfort and enhance cornering control.

But enough about the hardware, the flagship Bentayga is all about the soft furnishings. Bentley talks of a focus on wellness and claims to have developed the “most advanced seat ever fitted to a car.” The optional rear Airline Seats move in 22 different ways and have a postural adjustment system that can apply 177 individual pressure changes over a three-hour period to minimize fatigue. Sensors also detect your body temperature and humidity, then direct the seat heating or ventilation accordingly.

After only a few minutes experiencing the Airline Seat, we found its cosseting shape and barely detectable massage felt sumptuous and pampering beyond even the Bentley norm. Select Relax mode, using the touchscreen remote control, and the chair reclines to 40 degrees, while a leather-trimmed footrest deploys from behind the front passenger seat. Even tall adults will be able to stretch out. Got work to do? Switch to Business mode and the seat returns to upright.

Further niceties include backlit leather door panels, dual rear air ionizers, heated armrests and optional power-closing doors. You can specify the Extended Wheelbase with four or five seats, plus a new “4+1” specification with an occasional center perch. There are also a staggering 24 billion trim combinations, which should keep you busy on the configurator.

Bentley hasn’t announced prices yet, but the company predicts the EWB will comprise 45 percent of Bentayga sales. And after seeing it up close, we certainly think it could be a candidate for ultimate production SUV, though we’ll know more on that score after driving it later this year.

Wink Phillips Sold $61.6 Million in Watches From Rolex, Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet

Phillips Sold $61.6 Million in Watches From Rolex, Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet This Weekend

Phillips had a blockbuster weekend with two major watch sales, the Royal Oak 50th Anniversary Auction and the Geneva Watch Auction: XV, which collectively took in over $61.6 million.
The Royal Oak sale took place on May 6. Out of 88 lots offered, the top lot was the Royal Oak Ref. 5402ST known as “The A2”. It earned this nickname for being the second Royal Oak ever made and was presented to the world in 1972 at the opening of the Basel Watch Fair in Switzerland. It hammered for $1,073,319, five times its low pre-sale estimate, and set a world record for the most expensive vintage Royal Oak ever sold at auction.

The star lot wasn’t the only one to break records: the next highest lot broke the vaunted $1 million barrier. The Ref. 25654PT perpetual calendar in platinum sports a copper-brown dial and is double signed by Asprey. It managed to sell for double its pre-sale high estimate at a whopping $1,036,511 and now holds the world record for any perpetual calendar Royal Oak sold at auction. Fans of the late designer Karl Lagerfeld may be pleased to know a Royal Oak Jumbo, Ref. 5402ST once worn by the Chanel creative director also sold at the anniversary sale for $950,625.
Phillips then began the two-day auction period for its heavily anticipated Geneva Watch Auction: XV on May 7 and 8. The sale presented more than 600 in-person collectors and 1,800 online bidders with 196 coveted watches at La Réserve Hotel in the Swiss luxury capital. Its star lot was a Patek Phillipe Ref. 1518 perpetual calendar, known as the “Pink on Pink.” The model houses a pink chronograph atop a pink dial, hence the name, and “can only be found at the highest echelons of fine watch collecting,” according to the auction house. It sold for a staggering $3,333,926.

But it wasn’t the only lot from the sale to break records. The only known yellow gold Rolex with the reference number 6239—nicknamed “The Crazy Doc”—sold for $1,743,308 and set a new world record for its reference in yellow gold.
Another Patek Philippe also set a new selling standard. The Ref. 1503 dubbed “The Simon Wiesenthal” was once owned by the human rights champion and Holocaust survivor of the same name. It’s one of just two Ref. 1503s made with a black lacquered dial and Breguet numerals that are known of. Selling for $1,376,243, it holds the new world record for the reference.
“Once again, collectors’ appetite for rare and collectible timepieces of the highest quality, utmost rarity or of historical relevance and original designs has been demonstrated,” says Alexandre Ghotbi, head of watches, continental Europe and Middle East in a statement. “All of these elements resulted in yet another record-breaking sale at Phillips.”

Wink Want to Make $100,000 in Passive Income? Here's a Ridiculously Easy Way to Do It
Posted by: Sweetfreebies - 05-09-2022, 12:56 PM - Forum: Advertise here 100% free. - No Replies

Easy money? Yes, but there are some downsides to consider.
Time is money. If you're not spending your time making enough money to support your lifestyle, you'll need to make money another way.
That's where passive income comes into play. It puts the money you've already accumulated to work so that you can spend your time doing the things you want to do.
You might think that there's no way to stockpile enough cash to invest in a way that could support a comfortable lifestyle. However, you might be pleasantly surprised. Want to make $100,000 in passive income each year? Here's a ridiculously easy way to do it.
[Image: ?]Image source: Getty Images.
What would it take?
The average rate for money market accounts right now is around 0.08%. You'd need a whopping $125 million to make $100,000 per year with that rate. That's a no-go for almost everyone.
Certificates of deposit (CDs) aren't much better. With an average rate of close to 0.32% for a 60-month CD, it would take an initial investment of nearly $31.3 million to generate $100,000 in annual passive income.

What about investing in dividend stocks? If we assume a 5% dividend yield (which is enough to be considered a high yield), $2 million upfront would be required to produce $100,000 per year. Unfortunately, this amount is also out of reach for many Americans.
But what if you could make a six-figure passive income with less than $900,000 invested? A lot of people will be able to accumulate at least that amount in their 401(k) retirement accounts by the time they retire.
The Global X NASDAQ 100 Covered Call ETF (QYLD -1.14%) currently offers a yield of 11.8% with a total expense ratio of 0.6%. Investing a little under $900,000 in this exchange-traded fund can generate $100,000 per year in passive income after covering expense fees.

How the ETF works
Two words in the ETF's name reveal how the super-high yield is achieved -- covered call. QYLD sells covered call options on the Nasdaq-100 Index. This index consists of the 100 largest U.S. non-financial companies that trade on the Nasdaq stock exchange.

Selling calls gives the option buyer the right (but not the obligation) to purchase shares at a set price called the strike price within a specified period. Calls are "covered" when the option seller owns the underlying shares of the asset.
QYLD has been around since December 2013. The ETF buys stocks in the Nasdaq-100 Index. It then sells covered call options on the index. And the ETF does this on a monthly basis, generating monthly income for shareholders.
South Korean-based financial services company Mirae Asset manages QYLD. Mirae also runs similar ETFs that sell covered calls on the S&P 500 Index and the Russell 2000 Index
Easy, but...
You really could make $100,000 per year by investing less than $900,000 in QYLD. It's an easy way to make passive income, but there are downsides that you should consider.

Perhaps most importantly, covered calls generate income but they limit the upside potential. You could potentially make a lot more money over the long term by simply buying the Nasdaq-100 stocks or an ETF that holds the stocks and selling shares as needed for income. For example, the Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ -1.20%) ETF, which tracks the Nasdaq-100 Index, has trounced QYLD in total returns over the past 10 years.
QYLD Total Return Price data by YCharts
You should also be aware that QYLD isn't immune to steep declines. As a case in point, the ETF fell more than 25% during the coronavirus-fueled market sell-off in the first quarter of 2020. This slide wasn't much lower than that of the QQQ ETF.
There are other simple ways to generate a significant amount of passive income that could provide more upside potential than QYLD does. However, this covered call ETF could be attractive to some investors.

Wink How serious is Russia about nuclear war?
Posted by: Baypress - 05-09-2022, 03:39 AM - Forum: General Discussion & News - No Replies

WASHINGTON — The war in Ukraine has led some military experts to rethink the conventional wisdom on nuclear weapons, a reconsideration rooted in an acknowledgment that as frightening as the prospect of nuclear war is, a policy predicated on these fears has given the Kremlin too much license in Ukraine.

“I think we have exaggerated the threat of the Kremlin using nuclear weapons and have made some policy decisions based on that exaggerated fear,” retired U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges, chair of strategic studies at the Center for European Policy Analysis, told Yahoo News.
Mainstream thinking about nuclear war has been guided by two related realities: that atomic weapons are immensely destructive and that if used once, they will be used repeatedly in a series of back-and-forth strikes that will only compound the devastation until there is nothing much left to devastate.
Those were the lessons of Proud Prophet, an intensive 1983 simulation conducted by the U.S. government at the National Defense University in which dozens of security agencies and military commands took part.
Proud Prophet began with what was expected to be a limited nuclear strike by the Soviet Union, only to quickly slip from the grasp of the combatants. “The result was a catastrophe that made all the wars of the past five hundred years pale in comparison,” Yale historian Paul Bracken wrote. “A half-billion human beings were killed in the initial exchanges and at least that many more would have died from radiation and starvation.”
Given the diligence with which the simulation was conducted, Proud Prophet offered chilling evidence that however a nuclear war began, it could end only in annihilation.

Fears of such an outcome receded after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, especially as nonstate actors like al-Qaida preoccupied the U.S. national security establishment. Still, it was only a matter of time before new geopolitical tensions gave rise to fresh nuclear anxieties.
Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February did just that.
“The risk is higher now than it has been in decades,” Geoff Wilson, a policy analyst at the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation, told Yahoo News. Russia has openly courted the possibility, with Russian television last Sunday showing what a nuclear strike might do to the United Kingdom, one of many NATO allies now helping Ukraine. The following Wednesday, Russia conducted tests with nuclear-capable Iskander missile systems in Kaliningrad, a Russian territory within striking distance of European capitals and military installations.
There followed assurances from the Russian foreign ministry that Russia was not contemplating nuclear war. After weeks of bluster, the assurance was difficult to parse.
“We’re dealing with a nuclear-armed state,” Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall told the Washington Post late last month. “You cannot ignore that as you make decisions about how to respond.”
However, some military analysts believe that harping on Russia’s nuclear capability is a mistake, one that emphasizes history over present-day reality. They argue that even if Russian President Vladimir Putin were to order a nuclear strike, it would be with smaller, tactical nuclear weapons, not the much bigger strategic devices that could obliterate cities like London or New York.

And they argue that even if Putin did use nuclear weapons, the West could answer with conventional airstrikes as devastating as a nuclear attack but without the prospect of that counterstrike escalating into the kind of tit for tat envisioned by Proud Prophet.
“We have been so worried about nuclear weapons and World War III that we have allowed ourselves to be fully deterred,” retired Gen. Philip Breedlove, the former NATO supreme allied commander, said to Radio Free Europe in early April.
The tragic irony of the current moment is that Russia has leveled Ukrainian cities and killed thousands of Ukrainian citizens without having to resort to nuclear weapons. Although the West has been consistently supplying Ukraine with matériel, fears of provoking Russia into a nuclear attack have kept the United States and European allies from direct involvement in the conflict.

In response to the same dynamic that frustrated Breedlove, retired U.S. Army Col. Sam Gardiner, who was a war games expert at the Naval War College and is a leading authority on military simulation, compiled a PowerPoint presentation last month in which he argued that if Russia did go nuclear, it would be with a smaller, 1-kiloton tactical device as opposed to the 15-kiloton device the United States dropped on Hiroshima in 1945 (a kiloton is equivalent to 1,000 tons of TNT).
Russia has recalibrated its own thinking on nuclear deterrence since the collapse of the Soviet Union, as it has watched NATO creep ever closer to its borders. After NATO intervened to stop the war in Kosovo in 1999, the Kremlin held an exercise called Zapad (“West”) that simulated another NATO attack, this one on Russia.
A poorly trained Russian military failed to stop a NATO attack, leading to a nuclear strike against Europe. This strike would be with smaller, tactical weapons in order to avoid the kind of annihilation Proud Prophet envisioned. Subsequent war games helped the Kremlin hone a strategy known as “escalate to de-escalate,” in which nuclear weapons frighten the enemy into submission without leading to mutually assured destruction.
A joint strategic exercise of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus in 2021. (Vadim Savitskiy/Russian Defense Ministry Press Service via AP)
Effectively, "escalate to de-escalate" lowered the threshold for when nuclear weapons would be used but also called for less powerful nuclear weapons. The new approach informed Russia’s increasingly aggressive approach to former Soviet republics under Putin, including during his first incursion into Ukraine eight years ago.
“Russia’s policy probably limited the West’s options for responding to the 2008 war in Georgia,” deterrence expert Nikolai Sokov wrote for the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists in 2014. “And it is probably in the back of Western leaders’ minds today, dictating restraint as they formulate their responses to events in Ukraine.”
For some in the U.S. military, the current invasion of Ukraine demands a fresh outlook, one that does not shy away from recognizing that Putin could use nuclear weapons. Some also wonder if other adversaries see Western deference to Russia's nuclear might as a good reason to start making nuclear threats of their own.
At a congressional hearing on Thursday, Adm. Charles Richard, who heads U.S. Strategic Command, warned that China is “watching the war in Ukraine closely and will likely use nuclear coercion to their advantage in the future. Their intent is to achieve the military capability to reunify Taiwan by 2027, if not sooner.”

Gardiner believes the Kremlin’s "escalate to de-escalate" policy commits Russia to using only tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine, where the battle has taken on shades of the Zapad exercise. Gardiner does not believe Russia would use strategic nuclear weapons, even if the military situation continued to deteriorate. “You can only go so big, otherwise you will have crossed the line.”
Putin is likely aware that using a nuclear weapon of any size in an offensive war would further alienate Russia from the West. “One nuclear weapon is still a nuclear weapon,” said Wilson, the nonproliferation expert. “That’s a taboo.”
It may also be pointless. Ukrainian forces are too dispersed for such a strike to swing the war decisively in Russia’s favor. “Russian tactical nuclear weapons would have little or no impact on the operational battle,” Gardiner argues in his presentation, which he has shared with top military officials in Europe and the United States (including Breedlove, the former NATO commander).
And even though Russia’s offensive has proved ineffective so far, its indiscriminate shelling and bombing have leveled Ukrainian cities like Mariupol and Kharkiv. “Damages from the Russian use of tactical nuclear weapons are no more horrific than the current damages being experienced in Ukraine from conventional weapons,” Gardiner wrote.

Nor does Gardiner believe that a nuclear attack by Russia would require a nuclear response by the West. “Even if the Russians were to do something stupid, there is no need for us to follow that. We could destroy the majority of Russian forces in Ukraine with a five-day air campaign," he told Yahoo News.
Another presentation he produced and shared with current Air Force officials shows that such a retaliatory assault would cripple the Russian military in the European sector while leading to the loss of only 10 U.S. aircraft.
“Most war games have shown that once you start any nuclear exchange, things escalate very quickly,” said military historian Phillips O’Brien of St. Andrews University in the United Kingdom, who favorably shared Gardiner’s presentation on Twitter. He said he was intrigued by the presentation because “it opened up the possibility of responding to a Russian tactical nuclear usage through a very strong/devastating conventional response as opposed to possibly nuclear escalation.”

For some experts in nuclear proliferation, entertaining nuclear exchanges is fundamentally dangerous. “If Putin uses [a tactical nuclear weapon],” Northeastern University political scientist Mai’a Cross told Yahoo News in an email, “he is demonstrating to the West that he will not back down until he achieves his goals. His willingness to break the taboo would likely alarm Western powers and put them on heightened alert as well, which only increases the chances of accidentally setting off a larger war.”
Such a scenario would be an echo of Proud Prophet, in which a series of aggressions and counter-aggressions, maneuvers and misunderstandings, deepened the crisis.
“These are world-ending arsenals we are talking about,” Wilson said. “Everyone should be afraid of them.”

Wink Elon Musk Fears for His Life After Russian Threats

Elon Musk Fears for His Life After Russian Threats
The billionaire and CEO of Tesla supported Ukraine after the Russian invasion and did not hesitate to challenge President Vladimir Putin.

Tesla  (TSLA) - Get Tesla Inc Report CEO Elon Musk has never been afraid to confront his opponents publicly.
From his Silicon Valley peers like recently Bill Gates, the co-founder of software giant Microsoft  (MSFT) - Get Microsoft Corporation Report, to President Joe Biden, the richest man in the world fears no one. It's one of the qualities his more than 91.5 million Twitter followers admire.

When the Russian invasion of Ukraine began on February 24, the serial entrepreneur was the very first CEO of a multinational to support Ukraine. Not only did Musk clearly chose kyiv, but he also sent Starlink terminals, the satellite internet connection service of his aerospace company SpaceX, to Ukraine. Not only does Starlink allow Ukrainians independent access to the internet, the service allows the country to keep in touch with the outside world. Starlink is particularly used in areas bombed by Russia and remote areas.
The service also helps the Ukrainian authorities in the communication war against Moscow. Musk also challenged President Putin by proposing a duel with him to end this war. As of May 6, more than 3,150 civilians were killed, countless buildings have been shelled.

'If I die'
Nearly 5.8 million Ukrainians, or around 14% of the country's population, have become refugees after fleeing to neighboring countries.
Musk's Ukrainian support has earned him criticism from some Putin loyalists who have called him names. But the criticisms now seem to have turned into threats to the life of the billionaire. The tech tycoon has indeed just posted on his Twitter account a message from Dmitry Rogozin, the head of the Russian space agency Roscosmos.
"@Rogozin sent this to Russian media," Musk wrote on Twitter on May 8. He then posted a screenshot of a text in Russian which would be the message sent to the Russian press by Rogozin.
According to the translation made by TheStreet, this text contains threats to Musk's life.
"From the testimony of the captured chief of staff of the 36th Marine Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel Dmitry Kormyankov, it follows that the ground-based subscriber equipment of the Starlink satellite company Elon Musk was delivered to the militants of the Nazi Azov Battalion and the Marines of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to Mariupol by military helicopters," Rogozin wrote.

"According to our information, the delivery and transfer to the Armed Forces of Ukraine of PO boxes for receiving and transmitting the Internet from Starlink was carried out by the Pentagon."
He therefore concludes that "Elon Musk is thus involved in the supply of fascist forces in Ukraine with military communications."
Then follows threats on the life of the CEO of Tesla.
"And for this you will have to answer in an adult way, Elon, no matter how you turn on the fool."

What is Passive Income?

Passive income is money you earn that doesn’t require you to do a lot of “active” work to continue making it. In essence, you can do most of the work upfront and put some additional effort along the way to earn an income.

For example, if you create an online course, you just need to update its content to keep the money flowing.

You’ve probably heard the expression, “make money while you sleep.” That’s the biggest draw that entices people to earn passive income.

You can create something (a blog, course, ebook, videos, or an online store) that generates money even when you’re not working. Or you can make passive income investments (property or stocks) that allow you to earn passively.

'Doomsday': Putin hopes to deter the West with nuclear-themed WWII parade
Posted by: Daily Scoop - 05-08-2022, 01:33 PM - Forum: General Discussion & News - No Replies

As Russian soldiers, tanks, and military vehicles carrying ballistic missiles participate in a military parade next week, Russian President Vladimir Putin hopes the display sends a "doomsday" warning to Europe and the United States, according to a report.
The World War II parade, which Russia celebrates on May 9 each year, marks the 77th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory in Europe, when allied powers defeated Nazi Germany, and is taking place when countries around the world seek to stop Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The military display will also feature supersonic jets, Tu-160 bombers, and the Ilyushin Il-80 — known as Russia’s "doomsday" plane which carries the administration’s senior leadership in the case of a nuclear war, Reuters reported.

The "Flying Kremlin" aircraft, as it is also known, distinctly has no windows except for those in the very front of the plane and has been seen in Moscow in recent days, participating in low-altitude rehearsal flights for the Victory Day parade, Daily Mail reported.
This year will be the first time Russia includes the Soviet-era plane in the annual military demonstration since 2010, according to the report.

The theme of nuclear readiness and international deterrence will also be shown in Russia’s use of missile carriers Tu-95MS and Tu-160 "White Swan," as well as Su-57 fighter and Tu-22M3 long-range bombers, Daily Mail reported.

Russia’s military occupation of Ukraine will also be referenced in the parade as eight MiG-29SMTs intend to fly in the form of the letter "Z," which has become a symbol of Russia’s military, according to the report.
The military parade, which will still include tens of thousands of people and hundreds of aircraft across 28 Russian cities, has been considerably scaled-down as Russian forces have warred in Ukraine for over 70 days, resulting in heavy losses for Russia and incalculable damage to the country.
